About

About this

Why? I have no idea. I like lists. I like gathering information. I love boardgames.

Why Blogger? That I know! I have no knowledge whatsoever on making websites. Blogger is easy. Blogger is not made for information gathering database-y stuff, though. Still: I think this works quite well. Maybe one day I'll learn all about website design and create my 'own' site, but for now: I think this will do.

Awards? Awards. Awards are of big importance to publishers and designers, but are they important for us gamers? No. We're not buying games because of the award(s) it has won. Still: we discuss them. Want to know about them. And need to tell the rest of the gaming world that game X should've won instead of game Y. Just because. We don't need no stinkin awards! But we'll miss them if they're gone...

BoardGameGeek

BoardGameGeek.com is the biggest online boardgame community. And probably has the biggest Game Ranking as well. Over 5000 games (not counting expansions) are listed ranked; the database itself has over 40.000 games...

Games are ranked when 30 users rate a game. For more specifics on the methods used: see
here. Of course, BGG users all have their own ideas on the system, but with a community this big, you can't please all. Moreover: if you don't like user ranking, don't use them.

Games that have been number 1:

Agricola
Puerto Rico
Euphraat & Tigris
Paths of Glory
Monkey Auto Races (April 1st Joke)

IGA 2006 winner?

Weird things on the IGA website: it's announced the winner for the 2005 Historical Simulations category... Twilight Struggle. Message published: Dec. 9 2005.

Probably a small mistake, so I assume Twilight Struggle won the IGA 2006 Historical Simulations award. Ronald Hoekstra gives that info on his website as well.
